Report

The sun shone on the scenic venue for the Metal Circuits, Synthetic Biology and C1 gases Scoping Workshop in Canterbury. This event, organized jointly by Metals in Biology and C1net, was hosted at Cathedral Lodge, in the idyllic setting of Canterbury Cathedral Close.

It was designed as an intimate, quick-fire affair with the aim initiating and nurturing allegiances between industry and academia to encourage joint research.  30 delegates attended the meeting, of whom, 21 academics and 9 from industry.  The programme, spread over two days and one night, included 2 pitching sessions, a round table discussion, plenty of time for networking and a presentation from the Knowledge Transfer Agency on the different funding streams available.  In total there were 8 pitches from industry and 15 from academia and with many new alliances formed.  It is known that a joint application by Martin Warren, University of Kent, for a BIV between Metals and C1net, was a direct consequence of collaborations forged at this workshop.
